    Removal of Pre-existing Flooring

Regardless of what you want to replace, we have you covered. We will remove and haul away any pre-existing flooring.

      Removal of Pre-existing Flooring

We first start by removing any carpeting, vinyl, etc. until the subfloor is visible. This can vary from case to case depending on how the house was built and what lies underneath the pre-existing flooring. In this example, carpet was being removed that had particle board underneath.

      Prepping the surface for installation

Once the pre-existing flooring has been removed, we go over the entire floor carefully to remove any left behind nails, staples, or screws. Lastly, the entire sub-floor is then vacuumed to prepare for the vapor barrier to be laid.

      Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that you may have some questions about the process, below we have tried to answer some of the most common ones:

How long does the tear out process take?

This depends on what the pre-existing flooring is, and what lies underneath. In the tear out example above, particle board had been installed on top of the sub-floor which needed to be removed to ensure that the new flooring sits at the appropriate height. This drastically changes the time required for the tear out process compared to your typical carpet padding. It really just comes down to your unique situation. Our estimates are always free, so if you would like to get a better idea about your specific project we would love to hear from you.

Do you haul away the debris?

Yes, we will haul and dispose of any debris from the tear out process (unless specified otherwise.)

      Water Damage / Sub-floor Repairs

If you have unfortunately fallen victim to water damage, or have any other form of damage to your sub-flooring, we are here to help.

        Damage Assessment

Firstly, if the affected areas still have flooring on top of them, they need to be removed to assess the extent of the damage to the sub-floor itself. Each part of the damaged sub-floor is then carefully removed.

        Remove Damaged Areas

Once the damaged sub-flooring has been removed, you can now see exactly what you are dealing with. Everything from water lines, gas lines, electrical lines, and air ducts. Needless to say, it is important that these things are well protected by a structurally sound sub-floor.

        Replace Damaged Sub-flooring

We then replace the damaged sections with new plywood. Ensuring the air ducts, gas lines, and electrical lines are all accounted for. The sub-floor is now good to go, and ready to install the flooring of your choice.

        Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that you may have some questions about the process, below we have tried to answer some of the most common ones:

How long does this process take?

This varies dependent on the level of water damage (i.e. burst pipe vs small drip over time in confined area.) In any scenario we always try to salvage as much as possible whilst ensuring the new sub-flooring will be structurally sound.

        Weave-In and Spot Repairs

If you need only certain areas of your floor to be replaced, no problem. We offer a couple of different solutions for sectional repairs.

          Weave-In Repair

Sometimes based on the affected area, it is necessary to perform what is known as a 'Weave-In' repair. As you can see in the image, old boards are removed in a certain pattern before 'weaving' new boards back into the pre-existing floor. It is important to note this picture was taken after the installation process. Once the repair is complete the area(s) needs to be sanded to blend everything together.

          Replace Sections of Flooring

Here we have an example where the area to be repaired runs parallel to the pre-existing floor. This allows us to remove the damaged area up to the wall, and install new wood in the exact way it would have originally been laid. At this point the entire room would be sanded to blend everything together.

          Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that you may have some questions about the process, below we have tried to answer some of the most common ones:

How long does this process take?

This depends on whether or not a weave-in is required and how large the affected area is. Weave-in repairs can be more time consuming due to the fact each row has to be weaved back in one at a time. As always, we strive to complete any job regardless of circumstances as soon as possible while ensuring a high level of quality.
